Satire Project
During this project I studied satire and the different devices used in the real world and in the media. For my project the satire I used was about how the people in our country are so distracted by the things around them that they overlook real issues in the government's system. My satire is about the illusion of freedom and how we think we have all the knowledge there is to know when really there are many hidden things the government is hiding from us and don't want us to know about. During this project I created a satire cartoon that shows my message of my satire piece. In the the cartoon I drew a person that represents America which was surrounded by distraction/issues in our country while there was a cage hanging above the character that represents the government and how they plan take away our freedom.
Reflection:
My satirical piece was about how America is too distracted by everything going on around them to notice the government holding a metaphorical cage over our heads. The target of this satire is to show the illusion of freedom the government has placed in our minds. The government’s whole plan is to get us to act like sheep and only follow by brainwashing us into thinking we are free because of all the things we have and we should be so thankful for those things. What many people choose to overlook is the government and their regulations are extremely manipulative. The satirical message is that the government is slowly taking away our freedom by distracting us with things such as social media, politics, protests, social status, etc.. until they have completely taken our freedom away from us. The satirical devices used in my satire are juxtaposition, sarcasm, euphemism.
The most important thing I learned over the course of this project would be how to really open my eyes to the issues of our world and how they are affecting me and the people around me. I really opened my eyes to the issues in our government and country and how the people in our country are being affected and distracted by the things around them. You can see this in my final satire cartoon by the way I surrounded the cartoon character with issues and the way the character was distracted and didn’t see the cage dangling above him. I learned through this project as I researched more that we can’t be fooled by everything we see around us because there are many world problems that are being overlooked because of the daily distractions we surround each other with everyday.
I think the role of satire today is the way everyone is easily distracted by the things around them enough to ignore the much bigger issues in the world and overlook the system the government has going on. I think the government has a way of distracting us and making us do what they want by making seem like we have our own choice when really we are being controlled much more than we think, this is also a way for them to distract us from things they are doing behind the scenes.
I believe my overall score for this assignment based on the rubric is a 8.5. I think this score shows my performance in humanities class best because there have been times when I get distracted or off task but I always get my assignments done and try my best on each one. I am always prepared for class when it comes to bringing in my computer and utensils but every now and then I do forget an assignment or two. One specific thing I could improve on during the rest of the semester could be to turn in my assignments on time without needing an extension.

Imperialism Project
The Imperialism Project was a project where we picked from a list of events and movements in history that occurred in Africa. We did research on whichever event or movement that we picked. We had a series of op-ed documents to complete on google classroom along with our main rough draft for our op-ed's and main visual piece. Once we completed all of the documents we moved on to completing our final draft for our visual piece and op-ed.
